Thanks to Dean and Lindsay for their replies.

I ended up getting another NVidia card (the devil you know) and after a
quick four hour
I-need-Windows-just-to-update-my-BIOS-to-get-the-box-to-boot-with-this-card
installation I'm back up and running with my mission critical wobbly
windows.
