I've updated VLC from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4, still same probs (on windoze)
I'll try VLC on Linux, but, don't have access to it here.

meanwhile, DGTEC's tech support suggested using 'anyvideoconverter' which
converted .ts to mpeg, that seems to work well
