desire is dual band 3g.

there are four bands used for 2g and 3g cellular throughout the world.
manufacturers typically equip phones with 2-3 of these for 3g and these days
quad band 2g is the norm.



For 3G:
AT&T in the states uses 850MHz, so does Telstra Next G as it is longer range
which is great in the country.
Telstra has additional 2100MHz coverage in some parts of the city.
3, now owned by Vodafone uses 2100MHz in the city (a network half owned by
Telstra), then falls back to vodafone (not sure if it's their 2g or 3g),
then possibly falls back to telstra 2g/3g? in the country.
vodafone and optus mostly use 1900MHz I believe, but they have a few bits of
900MHz in the country which I think they share with each other in some
manner.

That info is what I amassed about a year ago, so it may be somewhat out of
date.
