You should have them on different channels (tick) and assuming they are 
bridging then they should bridge to the same l2 network.

If they are routing, then you cant roam - as your pc will take its ip to 
the network wifi AP and not be able to talk to a router to leave its subnet.

If the AP's have management interfaces in different subnets (or even l2 
networks if you use vlans) it doesnt have any impact.

Your wifi device should just jump on the AP with the strongest signal.

Also you will need to make sure the WPA settings are the same, otherwise 
your device will jump to the next AP but then not be able to authenticate.

if you can, load an open source firmware like dd-wrt (there are others 
which are good as well) on to all of them. You can also pick up open 
source compatible AP's of the wireless-G variety for quiet cheap on 
fleabay etc.
