internet enabled tvs

I need to buy a new TV set, and haven't really kept up with TVs, initial
thought was to get a cheap set from Aldi or Kogan, but stopping at Sony
show room I discovered Sony TVs (and others) now have ethernet jack or
WiFi as well as HTML5 browser, so I'm trying to educate myself if it's
worth the extra $$ to her a so called SmartTV instead.

So if anyone can throw any insights, I'd appreciate it.

I gather thses TVs can play or display  music and photos from local LAN?,
but can you play video media from local LAN? What format video?

Or does it only play video media from TV maker services?

I gather Android has remote control app which I guess would do for keyboa=

Is it worth to buy an Internet enabled TV, or, still too early?
