The present situation gives us one of four Executive positions filled
uncontested, and two of three OCM positions filled. However, it's
possible for people to be nominated, seconded, and accept right up
until the time we vote on that particular position, so there's plenty
of time to fill in the gaps at the AGM tonight.
Should we not get any other nominations, the existing 3 positions are
(as I understand the constitution) sufficient for us to go forward
with the business of the association; the remaining positions are
treated as casual vacancies and can be filled by appointment as soon
as a suitable person is found.
Just as a reminder, the section of the constitution most directly
covering the elections is section 15, which I've included below.
Section 13-22 all cover the committee and the election thereof in some
way; and sections 23-33 cover the AGM itself. The full constitution is
available at http://wiki.slug.org.au/activeconstitution
15. ELECTION OF MEMBERS
1. Nominations of candidates for election as
office-bearers of the association or as ordinary members of the
committee:
1. must have the oral or written support of 2
members of the association and the oral or written consent of the
candidate and;
2. must be delivered to the secretary of the
association prior to the election of the position at the Annual
General Meeting.
2. If insufficient nominations are received to fill all
vacancies on the committee, the candidates nominated are taken to be
elected and further nominations are to be received at the annual
general meeting.
3. If insufficient further nominations are received,
any vacant positions remaining on the committee are taken to be casual
vacancies.
4. If the number of nominations received is equal to
the number of vacancies to be filled, the persons nominated are taken
to be elected.
5. If the number of nominations received exceeds the
number of vacancies to be filled, a ballot is to be held.
6. The ballot for the election of office-bearers and
ordinary members of the committee is to be conducted at the annual
general meeting in such usual and proper manner as the committee may
direct.
