People,
I'm giving a one day course on topics in science at the WEA. It includes
material on copyright, technology, censorship and so on. I realise
some people will know more about these topics than me; neverless,
I hope the range and topics will still be of interest.
Here's the coverage :
What is the story behind global warming and the ozone hole? How are we
placed for energy in the future? What are the future options for
recycling? What is the significance of "trans fats" - and other
developing ideas about nutrition and what is in our food? What do ideas
recently developed from evolution (suchas those considered by Jared
Diamond in his book "Guns, Germs and Steel") and "brain wave scans" tell
us about the nature of humanity and ethics? What will be the impact of
developing technologies like biotechnology and nanotechnology? How will
emerging technologies affect our ideas about copyright and intellectual
property?
