I was suggesting something along these lines - might provide better 
performance....guessing that it is polling the file rather than doing a 
fresh search each time..

Now, that I have signed up to github, I will play a little...but don't hold 
your breath - I haven't tackled Python or Javascript to date. HTML/CSS is OK.
