Invitation to an Open Source discussion with Redhuan Daniel Oon (Red1)

Date: Monday 20 June, 2011
Time: 5.30pm for 6.00pm (drinks, nibblies, networking from 5.30pm)
Venue: IBM Building, 601 Pacific Hwy, St Leonards, Seminar Room, Level 13

Red1 is the Founding Leader at ADempiere Open Source ERP - one of the most  
successful
community Open Source projects in recent times.  ADempiere has as its  
origins
the earlier but commercial open source project called Compiere.  In 2006,  
the
developer community decided to take Compiere to new levels and created the  
ADempiere
fork.  Red1 presents in a familiar newbie's voice how such a complex  
software
project may be approached and how it addresses the software crisis.

Topics that will be covered at the session include :

o  How the Bazaar approach brings software innovation to ADempiere - 20  
mins
     a. How it achieves better quality and functionality over the years
     b. The role of Commercial Open Source or now more technically referred  
to
as 'Open Core' software?
     c. How people can make money or sustain a support service around it

o  A demo of what has ADempiere brought about - 30 mins.
     a. 2Pack extension model and version unlocking.
     b. Ongoing IBM Eclipse OSGi adoption within ADempiere.
     c. Overview of a user site adoption in Brisbane (by Steven Sackett and  
Allan
Howard)

o Q&A 30 mins.

This session is open to anyone who has an interest in open source, the open
source development model, or looking for opportunities to work with the  
Open
Source community.

The evening starts at 5.30  for registration and 6pm presentations...  
expected
finish around 7.15pm

There is plenty of street parking available within walking distance to the  
IBM
Building (ie, Chandos St, Atchison St, Mitchell St).
