Microsoft discontinuing support for Windows XP and encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 8. But many old computers will have difficulty running the new software. Perhaps users could be encouraged to install Linux alongside XP. They could continue to use XP non-networked applications, but use Linux for non-networked applications. By the way, the situation is not as urgent as previous thought, as security updates for XP will continue until the end of July of 2015: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2451550,00.asp ps: Computerworld describes Microsoft asking for volunteers to help users convert from XP as a "kill-XP army".
