The whole unix philosophy (perl notwithstanding) is to do ONE job and do it well. Make or use another tool to do another job.

I guess not relevant to William, who is talking about elvis, but vim (when)aka vi does dos2unix, unix2dos conversions on a file. RFM as I recall set mode dos, set mode unix
