Interesting.  I had a similar experience with the Ubiquiti AirControl2 and Cisco ASDM software, which is so slow as to be unusable, but other applications run perfectly fine.

NetBeans, Eclipse, AirControl2, and Cisco ASDM are all Java–based, so possibly some correlation there.

So far I haven’t found a direct cause, although I have an NVIDIA–based system where they run smoothly, but all the machines that have issues are Intel–based.  I don’t have any Radeon–based systems, I’m afraid.
