Hackers scaring newbies?

Whilst discussing various options for the upcoming Software Freedom Day
(SFD) someone suggested a CodeFest camp much like the successful one up
the coast a while back. We also want to do some Free Open Source Software 
(FOSS) evangelism and this highlights some issues with combining such an 
event.
