Funny enough, I've gotten that itch lately, too. Check out "Beginning J2ME >From Novice to Professional" from Apress and "Enterprise J2ME Developing Mobile Java Applications" by Michael Juntao to get started. They should lead you down a specialization path and point you to some toolkits to focus on specific devices or profiles. Good luck!
