J2ME DateField Behavior

I am trying to use the J2ME
javax.microedition.lcdui.DateField.
It is not behaving nicely on a PocketPC.  

 - It is difficult to set the time. 
 - It does not display what you entered previously
when you return to it. 
 - You cannot set it to your own default value.  Or
should I say that it does not display the value you
set it to.

Does anyone else have experience with this behavior?
Am I doing something wrong?
All the other widgets are working fine for me.
