WUG 9/27 Emerging Web Service Standards

messaging, security, and ecommerce, with practical application in the Auto

Meeting  Tues. 9/27 - Emerging Web Service Standards

In this talk, we will learn how new and proposed web service standards can 
have serve a very practical use in ecommerce.

IBM and Ford (with contributions also from also Chrysler and GM) have 
collaborated to produce Reliable Asynchronous Messaging Profile 1.0 as a 
proposed new web service 
standard.standard.

. IBM will, in the next couple of weeks, be releasing a toolkit that 
implements this proposed standard.

The manager of that effort will tell us about it.  You will also learn how 
you can obtain and use the toolkit.

She will also give us an introduction to what the WS-I (Web Services 
Interoperability) profiles are and how they have practical application in 
industry.

For those starting to lean about and use web services, this talk should be 
an excellent means to get a little above the XML and SOAP level,  to deal 
with some higher-level web service aspects such as reliable messaging, 
security, and ecommerce.

Some knowledge in these areas will help you understand what web services is 
*really* going to be about.

  Main Talk - Evolving Towards Open Community Web Service Standards

As we move towards services based architectures, interoperability standards 
are critical to the success of Web services and Service Oriented 
Architecture (SOA). As companies struggle to leverage their diverse 
technology, process real time transactions and generally remain nimble and 
competitive, they are looking to Web Services. In this session we will 
focus on the ability of Web services to leverage standards to ensure 
interoperability across heterogeneous environments.

This discussion will explain the challenges and the activities currently in 
progress as businesses and software vendors evolve towards a community 
committed to using open standards.

is WS-I, Why interoperability is critical
-The use of profiles to organize standards to meet business needs
-Example and Demonstration of the Reliable Asynchronous Message Profile 
(RAMP) with WebSphere Application Server

Ginny Ghezzo is a Senior Software Engineer at IBM with the Strategy and 
Technology group.  She manages a group of extremely talented developers 
that are working on the current and next generation of software standards 
related to Service Oriented Architecture, Web services, and other 
technologies effecting the IT industry.

 From I-40, take Exit 280 - Davis Drive. At the end of the exit ramp, take 
a right (North) onto Davis Drive. Continue straight on Davis Drive for 
about 0.5 miles. Take a right on Cornwallis road. Go about 1/2 mile, you 
will cross over railroad tracks. At the IBM gate keep to the right.

If the rightmost gate is down,  press on the intercom button and tell the 
remote guard that you are attending the WebSphere User Group meeting, and 
give him your name. He will open the gate for you. Go through gate, follow 
the road around past the first Tivoli Building, looking for signs leading 
to Building 500 or "Software Group."  Our IBM host is Greg Ackerman - they 
may ask for his name.
