Hello fellow JUG members, I am conducting some research on development trends and wanted to conduct an informal (and very unscientific) survey of this group. I will post the compiled results back to the list if I receive a sufficient number of replies. The purpose of this research is to determine where developers spend their time, which tools they use, and which resources are most useful (specific sites, forums, etc.). Therefore, please reply to me (please spare the list and do not reply-all) with your top THREE choices in terms of frequency of use/exposure/value in each of the following categories: 1. IDE's and editors (please include brand where applicable); examples include Eclipse, SlickEdit, etc. 2. Programming languages (Java, C++, etc.) 3. Scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python, etc.) 4. Application Platform (e.g., Apache, WebSphere, Windows, J2ME, ...) 5. Configuration Management (code control systems, e.g. CVS) 6. Bug Tracking (e.g., Bugzilla) 7. Testing Tools (e.g., JUnit) 8. Websites/Blogs/newsgroups (e.g., Slashdot, comp.lang.c++.moderated) 9. Print periodicals (e.g., C++ Developer Journal, 2600) 10. Email lists/communities (e.g., RTP JUG) Please also feel free to include any other developer-oriented resources that you think are important in your daily life. Thank you very much in advance. Regards, David [email protected]
