As a recent college grad who is in the job market, I can attest to the fact that most employers seeking a Java developer seek midrange skills with years of experience. The internships I had didn't require use of Java (of course, that was probably my fault for "settling"). So, even though I had 6 semester hours of Java, 3 semester hours of PHP, and 6 semester hours (combined) of systems analysis/design/implementation, as well as other discipline-specific courses, it has been next to impossible to find positions for which I would be qualified. Maybe I should have gone after a BS Computer Science instead of a BS Computer Information Systems. Maybe that is the problem. I don't know...
