Re: Java 1.4, Java 5, or Java 6?

1. Home projects: Java 1.5
2. Major telco in Cary: Java 1.4.2_08
3. Railroad company in Cary: Java 1.4.2 (I think that's what I remember).
4. 1.5, on a Laboratory Information Management System
5. recently upgraded the internal apps to Java 6, from Java 5
6. Moving from 1.4 to 1.5 was much easier than I had expected
7. Service Management software development shop in Cary: Upgrading from
1.4.2 to 1.6
   What I noticed at #2 and #3 above is the upgrade also means upgrading
WebSphere or WebLogic respectively. Not only is this pricey but most of all
might mean changes to how things work. #3 is also running JBoss so more
WebLogic vendor lock-in is not a goal. I guess the appserver versions are
primarily why projects are stuck on 1.4.  And thanks for all of the
responses saying no major problems arose. Good news. I guess the End of Life
on 1.4 next year when Java 7 comes out will force people to upgrade from 1.4
