idea for new TriJUG endeavor

Hi all,

Lee recently invited us to make suggestions for things the JUG could be
doing but isn't. I'm part of a student outreach group with my employer,
and I was thinking maybe it would make sense for the JUG to have
something similar. The one with my employer is very broad -- they are
simply attempting to generate an interest in Computer Science and
Engineering careers in the general student population. I'm thinking the
JUG could instead target groups and individuals who have already
self-selected programming as an interest, such as high school and/or
college computer clubs. We'd want to start a dialogue with those groups
to see how we could benefit each other. I wonder if they might like to
hear from the "real world" of programming and learn about day-to-day
experiences. We might also be able to share knowledge on more
cutting-edge technologies than their teachers get exposed to. Benefits
to the JUG include potential future members, and knowing where the best
and brightest are when we/our employers are looking for new recruits.

Any thoughts?
