IBM Portal - Any experience to share

Will appreciate if you could please share your experience in using IBM  
Portal?
Specific questions are:
1) Did you have to write portlets for your specific need, or they available  
portlets sufficient?
2) How did you manage any work-flow specific rule in portlet based  
application? Did you also have to buy WebSphere Process Server for business  process 
choreography?
3) How many months and FTE did it take to have a solution that is  ready for 
testing?
 
Sharing any lessons learnt will be helpful.
