Try this approach to hack nights?

So, a friend of mine pointed me to a web-page with some "shotgun rules" 
that some group (I'm not even sure who they are, but I don't suppose it 
matters) uses to organize meetings.  I was thinking we might want
to try a similar approach with this "hack night" thing.

The one question I would have is, would you guys like to set
a (more or less) fixed schedule for hack nights?  3rd Tuesday
after the vernal equinox before a month ending in the letter 'R'
or whatever...  or maybe just got with a "if somebody wants one, they
call the date/time AND location and whoever shows up, shows up" 
approach?  or a combination approach like "well aim for every 2nd 
Tuesday, but we may have supplemental ones if somebody calls it, or skip 
one if nobody is interested that week?"
