JJanuary 4, 2010 TriJUG board meeting notes

Sorry for the raw text, but the list blocks msgs over 40kb so a pretty
file is out of the question. Also, as an FYI, the Mailman info for
TriJUG's two email lists can be found at the URLs at the end of this msg.

Java Users Group (TriJUG) Board meeting January 4, 2010 9-9:30pm

Attendees: Rob Cameron, Pete Soper (Lee Haslup sent his regrets)

1) Talked about trijug.org web page. The January meeting presentation
title needs enhancement, but also need to get abstract info from DB. But
for sure Deutsche Bank (DB) had said several weeks back agreed that they
will cover their use of different languages and systems (e.g. C++,
Jython, various J2EE-related software packages, etc) and not just Java.
Also, their RTP site will definitely not be the focus of the
presentation. DB has been focused on a technical presentation all along
and is clear that Rob doesn't want any form of sales/marketing pitch.
Rob expects to get abstract info from DB very shortly and will contact
Manon and Bhanu to get the web page updated.
2) Discussion of possible speakers for future meetings. Rob will follow up.
3) [Notice for interested readers to explain the next bullet item:
TriJUG must move its meetings sometime after the January meeting to
avoid major pain as Nortel sells the building TriJUG has recently been
meeting in (NC0, in the corner of Davis Dr/54 on the opposite side of 54
from the place used for meetings for the past several years. The old
"yellow wall" building's meeting room has been turned into a machine lab
and there is no suitable alternative in that building]
4) Discussion of Red Hat's gracious invitation to provide a meeting
place for TriJUG meetings at their facility (presumably in the same room
that TriLUG uses on the NC State Centennial campus south of the original
campus). This site has a lot of positive aspects:
  * Excellent parking
  * A friendly, reliable, totally hassle-free environment to visit
    (imagine: only ONE sign-in list!)
  * A very comfortable room with good acoustics
  * Nice PC projectors
  * Tables/countertops designed to handle food and refreshments in
    the room.
On the other hand, the site location makes for a painful drive for some
folks coming from work or home, as it is in the SE portion of the
triangle area. Of course many people on any side of the Triangle have
had a harder drives to TriJUG meetings for many years (e.g. Chris Brown
lives in Clayton, and Hadrian Zbarcea lives in Fayetteville!)
Meanwhile, the board is investigating other venues for discussion in the
near future.

Decided to end the meeting at 9:30 and play with our kids.
