Presentation summary:

   Michael Kimsal will demonstrate the Grails web framework, a
   "convention over configuration" Java web framework relying on
   best of breed familiar technologies such as Spring, Hibernate
   and Groovy. We'll cover the basic setup, layouts, conventions
   (models, views, controllers, services), the GORM layer, common
   plugins and some of the recent and upcoming changes to Groovy
   and Grails. Quite a lot has happened in the Grails world since
   the last TriJUG Grails presentation in 2008, so be prepared to
   be amazed all over again!

About the Speaker:

   Michael Kimsal has spent 15 years in the web development world, starting
   with Perl in late 1995 and PHP in early 1996, then working with ASP,
   ColdFusion, Java and most recently Ruby and Groovy.

   Michael currently runs WebDev Publishing, which publishes PDF
   publications such as GroovyMag and JSMag, produces the indieconf
   conference for independent web professionals, runs the WebDev
   Radio podcast series, and is an occasional speaker at regional
   technology conferences and user groups.

   He can be found in and around the RDU Triangle area, running the
   regional PHP/MySQL user group, or meeting with other area tech
   folk. He currently lives in Youngsville with his wife and three cats.

Admission:

 Paid-up members of TriJUG may attend without additional charge.
 Non-members are asked to pay $5 per meeting. However, if you are
 either a full time student or unemployed, then we ask only $2 per
 meeting. Membership for 12 months is $40 and $15 respectively.

 From the Raleigh Beltline:

   Take the Western Blvd exit east toward downtown Raleigh. After
crossing Gorman Street turn right onto Varsity Drive. After crossing
Avent Ferry Road and Main Campus Drive, Red Hat's main entrance is on
the left. Parking is just beyond the entrance: a left into the parking
deck. Come back out of the deck, follow the sidewalk to the right and
back to the main entrance. The meeting room is to the left after
entering the main lobby.
