 Presentation summary:

    This session explores the forces behind the drive toward cloud
computing,
    specifically Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). Cutting through the marketing
    hype and quickly covering some of the main Java players, we'll address
    key elements that make PaaS interesting to our community, including the
    potential for dramatically shortened 'time to business value' promised
    by the compression of the 'inception to development to production' cycle
    from months to minutes. After touching on issues related to uncertain
    future scalability requirements, we'll also take a deeper dive into
    Red Hat's OpenShift solution to demonstrate the ease of moving your
    current code and skills to take advantage of cloud-based elasticity.

 About the Speakers:

    Burr Sutter is a current Sun Java Champion, former president of the
    Atlanta Java Users Group (go Gunnar) and founder of the Atlanta Chapter
    of the International Association of Software Architects (go Max). He
    is presently working day & night for JBoss by Red Hat and is responsible
    for developer-facing tools & frameworks like Seam, Spring, JBoss Tools
    (Eclipse), Richfaces as well as developer outreach via
    www.jboss.org/webinars and twitter.com/jbossdeveloper.
    Burr has over 20 years of software design and development experience
    and has been speaker at developer conferences like JavaOne, Jazoon
    (Zurich), TDC (Sao Paulo), JBoss World, etc.

    Grant Shipley is an OpenShift PaaS Evangelist at Red Hat focused on
cloud
    technologies. Prior to that, Grant was a Manager of Software Development
    with responsibilities over the http://www.redhat.com website and
    supporting infrastructure. Grant has over 10 years of software.
    development experience focusing on Java and PHP. In his free time,
    he contributes to several open source projects including Media
    Portal and http://www.follw.it as well as developing iOS
    applications. Grant has been using Linux on a daily
    basis since 1994 and is active in the FOSS community.

 Admission:

  Paid-up members of TriJUG may attend without additional charge.
  Non-members are asked to pay $5 per meeting. However, if you are
  either a full time student or unemployed, then we ask only $2 per
  meeting. Membership for 12 months is $40 and $15 respectively.

  From the Raleigh Beltline:

    Take the Western Blvd exit east toward downtown Raleigh. After
crossing Gorman Street turn right onto Varsity Drive. After crossing
Avent Ferry Road and Main Campus Drive, Red Hat's main entrance is on
the left. Parking is just beyond the entrance: a left into the parking
deck. Come back out of the deck, follow the sidewalk to the right and
back to the main entrance. The meeting room is to the left after
entering the main lobby.
