NOTE: NEW LOCATION! THE DZONE BUILDING, 150 Preston Executive, Cary, NC 27513 Tel +1.919.678-0300. Monday, April 21, 2014 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM Going Reactive with Java 8 & What is New in Java 8 Presented by James Ward & Jeanne Hiesel Summary What is New in Java 8: (this is an amended and shortened version of what was planned for the cancelled March meeting) Are you wondering what is going to be in Java 8? So are we. The Java 8 Launch occurred on 25 March 2014 and included some features that were planned for Java 7. Some tidbit feature...language-level support for lambda expressions (officially, lambda expressions; unofficially, closures), a JavaScript runtime to allow embedding of JavaScript code within applications, annotations on Java Types, and a new Date and Time API. Going Reactive with Java 8: Non-blocking, asynchronous, and reactive programming models are all the rage today. This session will explore in-depth why these patterns are important in modern apps. We will drill down and see how to apply them to event-driven web, mobile, and RESTful apps. To illustrate the concepts, we will use Java, Scala, Akka, and the Play Framework as examples.
