Thank you for the responses. Paloma, thanks for setting up the Meta page. A few others and I have posted additional comments on the talk page -- perhaps you can take a look when you have a chance. The US state restriction seems particularly unusual, even for smaller US-based nonprofits. Delphine, thanks for laying out the complexity of international hiring. I saw the beginning of the EOR implementation at WMF, and evaluated several EORs at my most recent job. I fully agree with you on the compensation question; geographically adjusted payscales are both defensible and, unfortunately, quite complex to manage as the number of countries increases. I can see a plausible argument that reducing the number of countries may increase applicant diversity e.g. from the Global South, depending on the hiring process, but I would caution that several Global South countries were also removed as part of this update. Generally, I think data is the best way to support decisions like this, both to show cost/complexity tradeoffs, and to measure the impact on geographic diversity in hiring. The Meta page says: "We plan to review this list annually to assess evolving conditions and as we learn from implementation." To support learning across the movement, I would appreciate continued updates on this process.
