DCW Conversation Hour - May 2026

Dear Wikimedians,

On behalf of the Deoband Community Wikimedia, thank you for joining our 
Conversation Hour with Léa Lacroix, Community Engagement Consultant and 
Founder of Wiki Sud Italia & Wikimedia Consultants Network.

Our discussion focused on strategies to revive and build momentum in 
local Wikimedia communities drawing on Léa's inspiring work in Southern 
Italy and Sicily. She emphasized starting with low-pressure, informal 
meetups to build connection and sense of community as well as seeking 
out individuals who already share a collaborative mindset. She 
highlighted that the best way to keep volunteers engaged is by focusing 
on their personal interests and local culture. For example, rather than 
hosting a typical photography event, the Sicily group organized a 
hands-on cheese-making class to document local recipes for Wiki Loves 
Sicilia.  Léa also shared strategies for partnering with underfunded 
museums and libraries, explaining how to align our mission for open 
knowledge with their need for foot traffic and digitization.
