Dear Wikimedia Community,

We’re excited to announce our new strategic partnership with KNEWROW
Consulting Limited (KCL) <https://knewrow.com/>, one of Nigeria’s leading
leadership development and organisational consulting firms. For over two
decades, KCL has worked across the public, private, and non-profit sectors,
helping to develop and mentor leaders. Their experience makes them a strong
partner as we strengthen leadership in the Wikimedia movement in Nigeria
and beyond, helping prepare the next generation of community leaders and
ensuring a smooth transition as the movement continues to grow and evolve.

Volunteers are the backbone of Wikimedia. Our Strategic Plan prioritises
leadership development and capacity building for long-term growth, so we
sought a partner who shares our values and has the track record to help us
support the next generation of community leaders.

What is Wiki Leadership X?

Wiki Leadership X is a key step in our commitment to Invest in Skills and
Leadership Development

,

a recommendation of the Wikimedia Movement Strategy. It is a six-week
virtual leadership development programme, followed by an additional six
weeks of peer learning and mentoring, designed to equip emerging
Wikimedians with the practical skills, knowledge, and confidence to lead
and strengthen their local communities.

Through live virtual sessions, self-paced learning, hands-on assignments,
and leadership coaching, participants will gain real-world experience they
can apply directly to their community work and careers.

Key Highlights of the Initiative

1. A Pilot Program: Launched jointly by Wikimedia Nigeria and KCL,
this first cohort will help us refine the model and explore ways to scale
leadership training across the wider movement in the future.

2. Fully Sponsored via CSR: KCL is delivering this program as part of
its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Their $27,000 USD
investment fully covers the learning platform, tuition and resources for up
to 50 selected fellows, with Wikimedia Nigeria paying 3000 USD for
KnewLearn LMS access for 50 participants.

3. High Interest & Global Reach: The fellowship kicks off in August
2026. We received over 200 applications from Wikimedians in Nigeria, Ghana,
Uganda, Madagascar, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Sudan, Brazil, The Gambia,
Liberia, France, Tanzania, Benin, and Qatar.

4. The Initiative was launched in Lagos during a press conference to share
the importance of the project to the world.

 Looking Ahead

We want to extend our thanks to KCL for supporting our volunteers and
investing in the movement’s future. By equipping these fellows, we are
building stronger, more collaborative communities for the long haul. We
look forward to following the progress of our first Wiki Leadership X
cohort and sharing their achievements with you soon!
