Copyrights Permission

Dear Sir/Madam,
 
I have finished the writing up of my book entitled ''Weed Science
Handbook''. This book will be published by Intercept Ltd, UK at the
beginning of 2004.
 
A part from a figure (endoplasmic reticulum) that is taken from
wikipedia
(URL address: http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/endoplasmic_reticulum or
http://en2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endoplasmic_reticulum ) has been
incorporated into another figure (cell) in my book. 
 
I can use the part of the figure I have taken from Wikipedia if I
licensing it under GNU FDL scheme.
But, as I have mentioned above, this part (endoplasmic reticulum) has
been incorporated in another figure in my book (cell figure) which
consists of other parts-figures. Some of them are already copyrighted by
other authors who kindly have authorised me to use them.
 
It is understood from the above that I cannot license under GNU FDL
scheme the whole ''cell'' figure because of these constraints (material
already copyrighted). 
 
Am I legally covered if I license, under GNU FDL scheme, only that part
of the illustration taken from wikipedia ? If yes, what is the procedure
I have to follow? 
 
My initial intention was to ask copyrights permission from wikipedia and
to give a full reference of the source (in this case wikipedia) in the
acknowledgement section of my book. Is it still a valid approach?
 
Alternatively I can ask copyrights permission from the copyright owner.
How can I track him/her (is there any list available that provides
contacts information) ?
