But the edits made be others to your public domain text are, by default, under 
copyright. So the resulting derivative work is under copyright, especially if 
significant changes have been made. However the beauty of wiki technology is 
that somebody could easily go into the page's history and find the diffs 
where you made changes. Then all the text that you, and /only/ you, wrote 
could be used as public domain text.

At least that is my understanding how it works.
