Since we have nearly 180,000 articles on en.wikipedia alone, I think any list 
of the "top five authors" would be laughably useless since not a single 
person would be the author of more than 1 percent of the entire content. 

And counting things based on edits is a no starter, since the top editors tend 
to make a disproportionately large number of minor changes and additions to 
content, while top content creators tend to make relatively few edits. 

Best then to infer "Wikipedia contributors" as the default content author. 
This is already done with our current link-back requirement.
