They are talking about 'free use of material' here, not 'free material'. What I think this article says, is that copyright protection does not hold in Germany if the supposedly infringing work is sufficiently different from the original work. I would think that this would for example be applicable if one spoofed a work, copied its storyline but not its contents, etcetera. Andre Engels
