Please, forgive me for the diversion, but...
  I have to know;
  Should I volunteer my time, effort, et cetera... Would I ever get paid by Wikimedia for all my work?
  I love Jimmy Wales and Angela Beesley, et al... But I gotta have an answer to this question before I take the plunge!

  There was a discussion about using the categry system

This might be even further improved soon, since I know
some folks are working on a category watchlist (which
would, if I understand correctly, also keep track of
when a page is *removed* from a category, as well as
changes made to pages in the category).
