Sorry, just saw this. The current problem is in upgrading (via 
./inject.pl) from fink-current (0.45.2) to git-head, and that's 
happening with any macOS version. So updating your High Sierra SSD to 
git-head would break that install.
git-head does work as a fresh install via ./bootstrap (personally tested 
on 10.13, 10.15, and 11.1).

If you have an Intel 11.2 system with no Fink installed, then the above 
commands ending in ./bootstrap should get you a working copy for 
BigSur/Intel. I haven't had runtime problems with such an install in my 
test BigSur/Intel VM. Every so often a package fails to build, but those 
have been getting patched.
