Hi Hanspeter,

Decided this was a good case for just removing old fink and re-installing fink using instructions on fink new of 9/23. Installation went fine, no more strange perl version problems. I have not been able to restore all the packages, but I guess that is to be expected.

Very weird that `fink list` and fink-virtual-pkgs have a disconnect.
Fink internally uses the command `/usr/bin/perl -e 'printf "%vd", $^V' `
to determine the perl version and it should be the same for `fink list`
and fink-virtual-pkgs.

What does that report? Also, what does this give you:
ls -l /usr/bin/perl* /usr/local/bin/perl* /opt/sw/bin/perl*
