Hi Hanspeter, Decided this was a good case for just removing old fink and re-installing fink using instructions on fink new of 9/23. Installation went fine, no more strange perl version problems. I have not been able to restore all the packages, but I guess that is to be expected. -Ed From: Hanspeter Niederstrasser <[email protected]> Date: Friday, September 22, 2023 at 5:57 AM To: Edward R Kinney <[email protected]>, [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [Fink-beginners] Failure to compile module-metadata-pm5184-1.000038-1 On 9/21/23 12:19 PM, Edward R Kinney wrote: > Hi Hanspeter, > > Stranger and stranger. Stopped terminal, opened new terminal window and ran fink index -f and fink list system-perl. They are stuck back at perl 5.18 and fink list system-perl5303 isn’t found. Re-ran fink-virtual-pkgs --debug, it still shows the system-perl associated with system-perl5303. > > > elhefe:~ kinney$ fink index -f > > Password: > Scanning package description files.......... > > elhefe:~ kinney$ fink list system-perl > Scanning package description files.......... > Information about 14720 packages read in 1 seconds. > > i system-perl 5.18.4-1 [virtual package representing perl] > p system-perl5184 [virtual package] > > elhefe:~ kinney$ fink list system-perl5303 > > Scanning package description files.......... > Information about 14720 packages read in 2 seconds. > > elhefe:~ kinney$ /usr/bin/perl -v > > This is perl 5, version 30, subversion 3 (v5.30.3) built for darwin-thread-multi-2level > (with 2 registered patches, see perl -V for more detail) > > Let me know if there is something else I should try! Sorry for all this trouble… > Very weird that `fink list` and fink-virtual-pkgs have a disconnect. Fink internally uses the command `/usr/bin/perl -e 'printf "%vd", $^V' ` to determine the perl version and it should be the same for `fink list` and fink-virtual-pkgs. What does that report? Also, what does this give you: ls -l /usr/bin/perl* /usr/local/bin/perl* /opt/sw/bin/perl* Hanspeter -- vvv ___ | ___.-----.ooO-(_)-Ooo-.-----| .-----. || |___| |___| _______________________________________________ Fink-beginners mailing list [email protected] List archive: https://sourceforge.net/p/fink/mailman/fink-users/ Subscription management: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-beginners
