Except that it's lib/x86_64 for 64-bit builds on 32-bit machines :-(
(this is why we shouldn't just rely on *my* memory, since I didn't
RTPM at the time).

We'll presumably want lib/i386 for internal consistency and to
parallel the 64-on-32 situation more closely.
