Justin, to reply here, too, not just on IRC: On 01.08.2012, at 15:44, TheSin wrote: > this is the proper and my vote, and while in base-files there are a list of other dirs and such things that should due part of it, I'll reply again in a bit have to run to work. The /var/backups location is definitely *not* something we should add to base-files (and I don't care whether Debian has it there or not, we are not Debian). Simply because (a) nothing is currently using it (except the ancient install-info, and that is a bug) (b) this location has even been deprecated by the FHS Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (c) we plan to replace the ancient install-info with a newer one anyway, and that newer one does not use /var/backups. Hence, it seems pointless, if not outright silly, to add this directory to base-files... I think I will for now go with option 3 and change the backup location to %p/info/dir.bak. This will be trivial to change again should we decide to abandon the backup (nobody is going to use it anyway) or even if we are decide to add /var/backups to base-files after al (but why????), or do anything else...
