Indeed, that seems like more of a pain than it's worth.  Since this has 
bitten a fair number of people, I've released a new fink where the tar 
unpack command includes this environment setting.

  At least we've got a couple of workarounds.

1)  Suggest that users not use "su -"

2)  Use --no-build-as-nobody
