For 2, I’m honestly not sure. I’m guessing the issue was that the validator complained about unversioned dylibs in a package that didn’t declare BuildDependsOnly: false. If nothing builds against regina’s libraries, then you can use BuildDependsOnly: false along the private library syntax in the Shlibs field to suppress some of the validator strictness—though you might still need to futz around with install_name_tool to put an absolute path in.
