I am getting the same error (on 10.10 as well) when trying to manually download the file with fink’s wget, while the system curl and ‘wget —no-check-certificate’ find it. I actually thought that was a real issue with the certificates on those sites, but since nothing has happened on that side in months, it may be a bug, but definitely somewhere further up with urllib/openssl, not really mpl’s problem.
