The only difference in output is that my build doesn't find 
cxx11_thread_local.

I wonder if it's a clang version issue (I have Xcode 7.3). Does the command

/usr/bin/clang++ -dM -E -x c++ -std=c++14 /dev/null | grep thread

output anything?
