Error installing deborphan-1.7.28.8-1 on fink-distribution 10.8

TRying to install deborphan-1.7.28.8-1 on the fink 10.8 distribution
running latest macOS Sierra yields the following error:

fink install deborphan
arch: /usr/bin/perl5.12 isn't executable

The documentation of http://www.finkproject.org lists deborphan as
stable in the source-development tree from fink-dist 10.4 troughout 10.12.

Plain logic dictates, either the documentation has to be updated, or
there must be a Bug in the system.

Any takers?
