Thanks for the link.  I may just fork that and add additional remotes (like to thesin’s branch and to the official repository) so that I can keep up with upstream changes and push out anything that I come up with.

This may have changed but I have a recollection that back in the 10.5 days universal builds needed separate i386 and ppc runs, and got stitched together at the end.  That fact, along with the fact that fat builds seemed to be not sufficiently reliable at that time, led us not to do universal builds in our packages.   IIRC our old (even then) dpkg didn’t do multi architecture packages, but dpkg1.16+ can.  

Honestly, I think Big Sur even on Intel is a big enough change that we should just bite the bullet and not worry about an upgrade strategy (if that’s being worked on).
