Ah, I think it is pkgconfig that depends on it? That is unfortunately sort of a basic package. As far as I can see, you can build pkgconfig with glib2 <= 2.59 and then update it to glib2-current as a replaces functionality? This is a fundamental problem of building a system from scratch and not updating an existing system. I think you are saying that the idea of glib2-current in parallel is not necessary.
