This is an old thread, but wanted to mention that as of early January
2023, the dpkg1.16 branch from TheSin- knows about Apple silicon. So
it's no longer necessary to run Terminal under Rosetta.

If you don't have Fink installed (or you want to install to a new tree),
follow the above instructions through the `./bootstrap` command.

If you already have a git checkout and want to update it, cd to the
right directory and run `git pull` to fetch the latest code. You can
then run `./inject.pl` to update an existing Fink install.

HOWEVER (very important), I don't know what will happen if you try to
run the updated Fink on an M1/M2 system that was originally set up as
being x86_64 emulation and has now been converted to run natively. My
guess is that something will break. If that's the case, I would
recommend starting from scratch as true arm64 w/out Rosetta's emulation.
