Sure, I don't want to disparage anyone's efforts either. However, Fink  
is one project where the small number of people with write access to  
the (large) collection of packages are very thinly stretched.

This is one example where a few minutes work by a maintainer of the  
package gtk+2 could save a lot of users of the package a lot of time.  
It doesn't require any particularly special skills over and above  
writing a script to check some compile-time state.
