For me, it fails much earlier with:

checking GStreamer 0.10 videoscale plugin... yes
checking GStreamer 0.10 gconfaudiosink plugin... no
configure: error:
	Cannot find required GStreamer-0.10 plugin 'gconfaudiosink'.
	It should be part of gst-plugins-good. Please install it.		
### execution of ./configure failed, exit code 1

No idea what this means. gst-plugins-good is installed.--
