Fink 0.28.6, tracking unstable
Mac OS 10.5.6/Intel
XCode 3.0
XQuartz 2.2.3
I'm not able to run the gnome-settings-daemon-2.24.1-1:
I know I'm running out-of-date XCode and XQuartz 2.2.3, but I haven't had
the time to upgrade (esp. since I had bad experiences with an earlier
attempt at running XQuartz 2.3.0). I plan to try upgrading after
Christmas, but I need to run gnucash right now. Starting gnucash complains
about missing settings, and it turns out that the gnome-settings-daemon
isn't running. I start the daemon automatically upon starting X (which
opens automatically on login), but it doesn't work. I tried running it in
no-daemon mode from the command line to see output, and I get the following:
[perdita:~]$ /sw/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon --no-daemon
** (gnome-settings-daemon:124): WARNING **: Couldn't connect to session bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
** (gnome-settings-daemon:124): WARNING **: Could not get a connection to the bus
I upgraded to 10.5.6 within the last couple of days, and this is the first
time I've attempted to start gnome apps since then. I had originally
forgotten to re-install XQuartz, so gnucash originally complained about a
library mismatch (libXdamage, IIRC), but re-installing Xquartz fixed that
problem.
I can successfully run gnucash, kind of, by telling it to go ahead even
though it can't find config info, but it runs unusably slowly because it's
generating *huge* amounts of console output consisting of various errors
and diagnostics.
Now, these packages were all built before I upgraded to 10.5.6. Do I need
to rebuild gnome-settings-daemon and supporting packages? Upgrade XCode &
XQuartz? Or are Gnome packages just FUBARed?
Richard
