The fact that you're trying to build pan isn't really important.

Similar errors in the past have been associated with having a corrupt
xml-parser-pm5*, by virtue of having linked to an expat library in
/usr/local.  You can check what's going on by running

    otool -L
/sw/lib/perl5/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level/auto/XML/Parser/Expat/Expat.bundle

If that references a non-fink libexpat, that would be a source of
problems for you.
